Why we Gillete

Reginald Owen was born on August 1, 1887 and died on November 5, 1972. He was a british actor.

Detailed Biography:

Reginald studied at Sir Herbert Tree's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made his first official debut in 1905. He started on Broadway in New York, and then moved to Holywood. He appeared in mutiple MGM films.

He is best known for his appearence in "A Christmas Carol" from 1938. Which the role orriginally belonged to Lionel Barrymore, but was given to Reginald after Barrymore broke his hip.

Career as Holmes:

Reginald Owen first appeared in a Sherlock Holmes film in 1932 as Dr. Watson opposite Clive Brook. He then later made his own version of Holmes in "A Study in Scarlet." From 1933.

He was known as a chunky Sherlock Holmes. And he only appeared in one Sherlock Holmes film as Holmes.

He is one of three actors to play both Holmes and Watson. Jeremy Brett and Patrick Macnee are the other two.

Life after Holmes:

After playing Holmes, he appeared in the TV series "Maverick" from the episodes "The Belcastle Brand" (1957) and "Gun - Shy." (1958)

He also appeared in the Walt Disney films "Mary Poppins" (1964) and "Bedknobs and Broomsticks." (1971)

Christopher Lee was born on May 27, 1922 and is still living today. He is a british actor.

Detailed Biography:

He was born the son of a Colonel in the King's Royal Rifle Corps and an Italian Countess. He had a long career in mainstream horror films and is best know for appearing in productions made by Hammer Films.

Career as Holmes:

Christopher Lee was Sherlock Holmes for the first time in 1962 in the German film "Sherlock Holmes and the Deadly Necklace"(Sherlock Holmes und das Halsband des Todes) with Thorley Walters as Watson. In the Deadly Necklace, Lee wore a fake nose. He appeared as Holmes the second time in "Sherlock Holmes: Incident at Victoria Falls" (1991) Starring Patrick Macnee as Watson. Then made an appearance as Holmes again in "Sherlock Holmes and the Leading Lady" (1992) Also starring Macnee as Watson.

Other Sherlockian Roles:

He appeared in 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' as Sir Henry in Hammer Films' 1959 version with Peter Cushing (his friend and frequent co-star ) and as Mycroft Holmes in 'The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes', being the only actor to play both siblings on screen.

Even though the actors are not known well, the films sometimes are. Like Christopher Plummer is not well known, but Murder by Decree is known as one of the best Sherlock Holmes films ever!

The Voice of Terror is a 1942 film starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson. It is the third in the Rathbone - Holmes series.

Holmes is called into the "Inner Council" of British Intelligence by a man named Sir Evan Barham. He wants Holmes to try and stop Nazi operating in Britain. The Nazi's actions were broadcasted on the radio as The Voice of Terror.

Holmes investigates by following the trail from Limehouse to a bombed-out church near the south coast. While he is there, he finds out the true identity of "The Voice of Terror." The Barham that called Holmes on the case was an imposter.

The way Holmes finds this out, was that the real Barham carried a scar from childhood. The scar the imposter had was only twenty years old.

Holmes deduces that in World War I, the real Barham was taken out and shot.
The gentleman who called Holmes into the case was a man named Von Bork who was posing as Barham for 24 whole years.

Terror by Night is a 1946 film starring Basil Rathbone as Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson. It is the thirteenth film in the Rathbone - Holmes series.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are hired to protect The Star of Rhodesia on a train from London to Edinburgh. While on the train, the diamond is stolen, and the owner's son is murdered. So Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson, and Inspector Lestrade are on a quest throughout the train to find it.

They come up with a plan to go interview every passenger. Before they do this, they tell the conductor to let nobody leave the carriage until they find the criminal.

While interviewing, Dr. Watson goes to interview a Mathematics Professor. He gets angry when Dr. Watson enters his compartment. He says if he is not a police man, he has no right to do so.

Later on their quest, they find a guy who admits he took it, and Dr. Watson can't believe it. He runs to get Holmes and Lestrade, and when the guy opens up his briefcase, it turns out to be a teapot he stole while he was at his hotel.

Holmes, after a bunch of problems interviewing, reveals that he had the Star of Rhodesia the whole time. And that it was a fake that Holmes replaced it with that the thief stole. Lestrade gets mad and wonders why Holmes did this. Holmes says they are looking for the murderer, not the thief. Lestrade forces Holmes to give him the diamond, so Holmes does.

Holmes thinks there are two men working together on this crime. He is right. And he believes one of them is Duncan-Bleek, the man that Watson brought on the train with him. But Dr. Watson does not believe this. He says he has known Duncan-Bleek for years, and he would not do something like this.

It is revealed on the screen that it is true that one of the men are Duncan-Bleek. And the other guy is committing all of the murders. Holmes said earlier, one man planned it, one man did it.

Duncan-Bleek and his henchman, Sands, decide the are going to kill Lestrade and get the diamond. They go thru with this plan, breaking in to his compartment, and beating him until he falls into the floor. Sands recovers the diamond, and then Duncan-Bleek kills him. And then steals the diamond.

It is later revealed in the dinner cab that Duncan-Bleek is Colonel Sebastian Moran. And that he has done this. Holmes gets the conductor to get Duncan-Bleek, and has a talk with him. Bleek then pulls a gun to Holmes, and Dr. Watson attacks Bleek. It then gets into a fight with the lights off. In the fight, Holmes handcuffs Lestrade and Bleek. But he gives the police Lestrade on purpose. Mainly because the Inspector that was arresting was a henchmen with Bleek. Lestrade then arrests the whole gang on the way out.

Holmes then takes the Star of Rhodesia out of his pocket, somehow getting it out of the fight. And the film ends.

Peter Cushing was born on May 26, 1913.

His first appearance as Holmes was in 1958. He starred in the Hammer Studio's version of
'The Hound of the Baskervilles', which was the first Sherlock Holmes film to be made in colour. Christopher Lee played Sir Henry Baskerville in the production. In 1968 he took over from Douglas Wilmer in BBC TV's Sherlock Holmes series, with Nigel Stock appearing as Watson. It ran for sixteen episodes (including a two-part Hound of the Baskervilles) and in 1975 he was offered the part of Holmes in the stage play 'The Crucifer of Blood' on Broadway, but was unable to take up the role - Charlton Heston would later play the part in Los Angeles with Jeremy Brett as his Watson.

Peter Cushing died on August 11, 1994.

He played as Sherlock Holmes in the 2009 film by Guy Ritchie. With Jude Law as Watson, Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler and Mark Strong as Lord Blackwood.

Robert Downey Jr. has revealed he is definately not a Holmes fan. He says that Holmes is "Querky and Nuts" and other things with bad language. Rachel McAdams says anybody who reads the books becomes a fan.

Robert Downey has also said this is the hardest role he has ever played. Even Iron Man and all of those other roles were easier than Holmes.

After already practicing his deductive skills among his fellow classmates (along with playing the violin and fencing) Holmes uncovers a sinister plot involving one of his masters, Professor Rathe. Holmes and Watson are thrown into the rituals and mystery of an ancient Egyptian cult with a penchant for inflicting hallucinogenic drugs via a blowpipe to it's unsuspecting victims.

With its mixture of fantasy, storytelling and adventure, 'Young Sherlock Holmes' is an entertaining chapter in the varied collection of films made about the Great Detective.

The Hound of the Baskervilles is the most filmed of all the Great Detective's adventures .This version of the novel was the first Sherlock Holmes film to be made in colour. Made by a studio more widely known for it's horror film production, Hammer Studios began shooting the film in 1958 at the Bray Studios in England. Advertised with the billing :"It's ten times the Terror in Technicolour!", "The most horror-dripping tale ever written!" It was made to appeal to Hammer's core audience and several plot changes were employed to achieve this, including Sir Henry having a close encounter with a tarantula and Miss Stapleton drowning in the Grimpen Mire. Baskerville Hall itself was filmed at the same location as that which was used to film 'Dracula' the year before.

Despite the plot changes, the film remains popular and was the first occasion that the actor Peter Cushing played Holmes. He would later go on to star as Holmes on television.

Three musical boxes are being sold at an auction, all playing "The Swagman." These musical boxes were made in Dartmoor Prison.

But these musical boxes aren't any ordinary musical boxes. They have a secret code inside of them which leads to stolen engraving plates for five pound notes. And Sherlock Holmes is determined to crack that code.
But there are three gangsters determined to steal them. Even it means commiting murder.
