Will the real Sherlock Holmes please stand up?

Out of all these fine actors, who is your favorite; or, which interprets Conan Doyles version best.My personal fav' is Ronald Howard. The charm, the stature, and the in general, the overall appearance and acting range of Howard made him a top-hit for me. Who is the best actor? Chime in! Do you find this valuable? |

Hmmmmm that's a tough one. Maybe it's the first Holmes you see that sticks with you. The actors I like are the ones that give attention to detail in the part and even if they don't quite meet the attributes of Conan Doyle's character, give a performance with a bit of depth whoever they may be. It was Basil Rathbone's films that got me reading the books but the Jeremy Brett series that kept my attention too, and still does. I haven't seen much Ronald Howard yet and only a couple of Peter Cushing. I think the best is yet to come. Who comes to mind if someone says Sherlock Holmes to me ? ........ It's got to be Basil Rathbone.

My favorite was Basil Rathbone. He was just perfect match to Holmes. He had everything Holmes had - even the nose! Perfect match!
